Andrew Samonsky Joins Carolee Carmello, George Hearn and More in Broadway’s Scandalous

Broadway alum Andrew Samonsky will play the dual roles of Harold McPherson and Kenneth Ormiston in the forthcoming Broadway premiere of Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson. Samonsky joins previously announced two-time Tony nominee Carolee Carmello, two-time Tony winner George Hearn, Edward Watts and Roz Ryan. Featuring a book and lyrics by Today co-host Kathie Lee Gifford and music by David Pomeranz and David Friedman, the new musical will begin performances October 13 at Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre. Helmed by David Armstrong, opening night is scheduled for November 15.

Set in 1920s Los Angeles, Scandalous is based on the life of the first superstar evangelist, Aimee Semple McPherson (Carmello)—a woman whose passion for saving souls equaled her passion for making headlines and attracting crowds. McPherson rose to fame amid scandalous love affairs and controversy, which ended in a publicized fall from grace. Samonsky will play McPherson's second husband Harold, and Kenneth Ormiston, the sound engineer hired by McPherson to produce a radio show during the height of her superstardom.

Samonsky appeared on Broadway in South Pacific, off-Broadway in Queen of the Mist and Merrily We Roll Along at Encores! His additional theater credits include Little Miss Sunshine and Tales of the City.
